Fun Things to do in San Francisco

Sound Of Music Sing-A-Long
The sing-a-longs at the Castro Theatre are the best... and who really can not get glad watching Julie Andrews run across the screen singing "The hills are alive... with the sound of music..." Thanks to my friend Eric for bringing me for his birthday last year. Booking the Nazis, hissing at the Baroness, waving white flowers in the air, uncorking champagne bottles... come on, audience participation at its best! Who wants to sit through a three hour movie at home, when you can watch it on the big screen with 1400 of your new closest friends? And don't forget the adorable and talented Warren Lubich playing the movie's score on the organ, before the show. I just want to put him in my pocket and take him home with me!

You will never want to watch the Sound of Music any other way.Clearly there were some *ahem* fans in there who'd been to a half dozen Sound of Music Sing-A-Longs & knew what to do & expect with every single scene-I followed their lead. I barked at Rolph, I boo hissed the baroness, I waved my little plastic flowers while singing "edelweiss." It was drop dead funny to see people actually dressed up & getting into the spirit of things and humorus to hear people in the audience yelling, "Hide, Maria! Hide!" so majestically.

Seward Street Slides
The most tantalizing free of charge journey in San Francisco, hands down. Though when I went air-born at the bump in the slides, I almost pissed my pants! Two out of the three of us left with burn marks inside our biceps from trying to slow ourselves down, so I highly suggest wearing long-sleeves. If you live in San Francisco, you should really do this at the very least once.

Great way to kill some hours on a nice Sunday afternoon. It sort of reminds me of something straight out of the Adventures of Pete and Pete: this super secret holy grail of playground equipment, surrounded by Adults who you have to be quiet around or you'll anger them (too bad Artie didn't show up). We stayed there for about 30 minutes and at the very least more than a few different groups came by during that time. Plentiful cardboard scraps too, or be brave and bring waxpaper.

Hands down one of the better things to do in San Fran. A few minutes from the main part of the city, the small street Seward holds fun that is amazing. I suggest going down face first on the slide with a little cardboard as your vehicle of value and selection. The best part is the little air you getting going down the big drop!

Bay to Breakers 12k
This is one amazing event! Bay to Breakers has been around forever as a the day ot the race/fraternal hazing party. You could say it's like Animal House the movie goes to the college track meet. Unfortunately there is a great deal of controversy over a sanitation issue and this may possibly lead to no alcohol being created the 2011 year, stay tuned for updates! The house parties after the race turned out to be a great deal of fun and really packed until it was all shut down around 6pm or so.

There was quite literally people drunk at 9 in the morning trying to walk 12k. Everyone was going insane, floats going up and down the streets bumping dance music. Naked people walking around like down the streets like they were in the house. I never seen such an event. People lose total ethical control and just let loose! Everyones so cheerful and I was surprised no battles happened. Beer cans quite literally swimming on the ground. People's houses were turned in to piss alleys. I feel sorry for those who live on the actual route. LOL.The main mission of everybody there was just have fun!

Lindy in the Park
LitP has been running since 1996 and is the longest running swing dance venue in San Francisco. This event happens most Sundays (as long as it doesn't rain) in Golden Gate Park on JFK Drive, adjacent to the De Young Museum.

It's a great place to pick up some (dance) moves from their *free of charge* swing dance lesson - Noon to 12.30p - and you don't have to worry about dragging someone against their will to this lesson. Just show up and meet a great deal of other nice people as you rotate partners. Their is also a DJ dance alongside from 11am to 2pm. More of the advanced dancers often show up around 12.30p. What a fun way to spend Sunday afternoon. Lots of swingers from 9:20 and other local estabs stop by and tidy up their moves. Only downside- swing dancing on cement isn't optimal but you're having too much fun to care. A great people watching place too. There is even a hot dog stand close toby with refreshments in case you get famished.
